Delphin Vacuum Demo Review

January 6, 2013

Okay, I went to Star Vista with my friend for a meal. Then while walking past a pushcart, I was approached by a woman who passed me a free gift before speaking to me.

After telling me that they’re offering me a free non-obligatory demo service for their services, she proceeded to ask me to fill in my details on a form purely for contact purposes.

I filled it in but was surprised why I needed to fill in my nric no, which to me is pretty private. Anyway she was really smart, she actually purposely called me on the spot to verify that I had given her my real hp no. She then proceeded to force me to fix a date for the demo guy to come to my house in a very nice way.

After verifying and such, she left me alone. Anyway, I was told that it was a non-obligatory free demo that is only supposed to last between 45-60mins and it was for a cleaning service that their company provides.

At the appointed time, this very friendly and nice guy arrived very punctually at my doorstep. He was carrying a backpack and a big trolley bag. The documents and stuffs were in his backpack while the whole Delphin vacuum cleaner was in the big trolley bag.

He proceeded to the room I showed him to and proceeded to explain about the functions of the machine, how it works, coupled with a bit of demonstrations. He exhibited the air purifying function, complete with a demo using dettol and aromatherapy oils using the machine.

Thereafter he started to talk about the cleaning functions, especially dust mite stuffs and how the machine can help us purify the air, how it can be used to clean the mattresses, sofas and curtains etc and of course about its vacuuming function.

So in all, the demo only included a 2 mins demo of purifying the air and a max 5mins of cleaning one queen size mattress.

After all the explanation etc, the salesperson kept trying to persuade me to buy and I was really tempted, but the price really made me balk.

I was told that the Delphin vacuum cleaner costs $3745. I was so shocked! That was really ultra expensive!

He then proceeded to tell me that there was a one time offer for first time demo. That it is now offered at only $3424 if I were to buy on the spot. Also, the usual 3 years warranty would be extended to 10 years. Upon further questioning I found out that the 10 years warranty actually meant 3 years full warranty and the 7 years are only for servicing. There would also be free gifts and perks if I were to buy the machine straight away.

I kept telling the person I needed to think it over as it was really costly and he actually proposed the instalment plan. I hated to do instalments and told him frankly I needed to consider. He told me that if I buy it after he leaves, he would not get any commission etc etc.

Anyway he kept pressurising me to buy, even to the extent of taking out the purchasing form etc. He told me the person manning the van could come up and deliver the machine straight away and that the person could bring up the machine for facilitating the credit card transaction on the spot. And all the while, he did it in a really friendly, persuasive and non-threatening but still pressurising way nonetheless.

I disliked being pressurised and him doing that made me more determined to decline buying instead. He kept trying to persuade me for the next 45 mins. I started getting a bit frustrated especially since he kept insisting money wouldn’t be an issue for me, especially since it is for the health and wealth of my family. In my mind, I was thinking, do you mean to tell me that most Singaporeans are so rich that they can spend $3500sgd without blinking an eye?

I told him to use his eyes and look around my flat then I asked him straight, “Look at my flat, do I look like the kind of person who can afford to immediately pay up and buy such an expensive piece of equipment without the need to think through carefully?

I then took out my hp to google for reviews and once he saw me doing that, he told me that the reviews online can’t be trusted as they are just fake allegations and complaints posted by their competitors. I told him that I’m not some ignorant fool who believes everything I see but I like to be informed about stuffs.

Anyway, he was pretty unlucky because I’m usually easily tempted into making impulse purchases. However, I had just spent tons on my dec holiday to Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan and was in a real tight budget constraint at this point. That was why I said I would consider, because my finances were really tight at the moment.

Anyway, after 2hrs 45mins of trying to convince me and getting me to buy the vacuum cleaner, he finally gave up, got me to fill in a customer feedback form, packed up and went off.

Luckily I had cancelled an appointment later else I would have been super late for my appointment. I never knew they could be so persistent.

Also, I might have been very lucky. The guy was still very nice and friendly while going off and I really appreciate that, especially after I had read about some downright scary experiences posted by other people online.

In all, I have to admit that the machine did seem impressive and seemed to work very well and I would have bought it if I were rich or had lots of spare cash to spend. However, I’m not. So, too bad. I’m not so irrational as to spend beyond what I can afford and I absolutely do not wish to ever be in debt. I never spend beyond my means.

Anyway, I’m glad tht u didn’t get into it. Less than a month ago my friend just settled her case with Delphin at the court. And all tht extended warranty is crap. Their after sales service is the worst in history. I’ve seen their office. Doesn’t give me any good vibes since I had a taste of how their attitude was like when I went to their office for my refund. And honestly, if u get a normal vacuum with an empty bag inside to suck ur mattress, it will impress u equally. It’s just bcos we use our vacuum on floors we would never think of using it to clean our beds. And for water base vacuum, there is a limit to their motor power. So don be fooled by it. Pass it on to your Frds. ESP those who don belong to the ultra high income group, 98% of those who bought.. All wants a refund..

Thanks for your comment. I’m really glad I hadn’t given in and bought it. I dread to think of all the problems that I would have to face. Also, glad you managed to get your refund. 🙂

      Hi Lauren,

May I know what type of payment mode have you made to them? If by credit card are they able to make immediate refund? Meanwhile are they charging you penalty for the returning of the vacuum?

By the way, you went to their office with the vacuum or they came to collect by themselves?

Need your advice to help in settling my case too.

      Thanks

Hi Lim, from you summary of account, any credit terminal, if purchase made on the spot, cancelation or voiding of transaction can be done immediately. That is if your reason is valid. For this case., it depends on what your reasons of cancelling order is about, dealing with them personally will probably get you at best 20% penalty from D.. if for a good solid reason, chances are you may only need to pay 5% of penalty. If you need more info or advice, I would be glad to help. Just paying it forward bcos I can understand your frustration. You can email me at hollyseet@hotmail.com if you like to ask me more.

    Hi

I also experienced being approached at a mall on a cleaning service by Delphin this week & wish to share. I was told that the 1st cleaning of 2 mattresses by staff was free & then I can decide if I want to sign up for the service. I never had such a horrendous service & nightmarish experience before. The staff was late and very arrogant and insolent. When she spoke Mandarin, I asked her to speak English to which she replied in an arrogant manner “I am Taiwanese!” & told me that if I wanted an English speaking staff, I should have requested for one!. As if her insolence wasnt enough, she told her husband in Mandarin “I thought all Singaporeans should know how to speak Mandarin!” I understood what she meant and told her not to be rude & told her if she didnt want to proceed, I am fine with it. But she decided to continue and even before she started told her husband (who by the way is a Singaporean!! and his English sucks big time) to show me the contract. She did such a poor job that when I filled in the feedback form, she was so mad that she just packed up and left in a huff. This people from Delphin are the worse sales people I ever encountered! The company should also be condemned. I believe their motto is “Sell, sell, sell, just get their signature and quickly leave” Poor service is the name of Delpin’s game and making Singaporeans out to be prime suckers is their goal. Avoid Delphin at all cost and I heard from friends who had bought the cleaner, it is NOT GOOD & SERVICE EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE!

Hi, we had totally the same experience today and the guy’s name starts with B? Indeed he was very persuasive and spent about 70 mins at our place trying to sell us the Delphin vaccum. No doubt the machine is effective in doing its job but $3600 is a bit costly. We think the machine max selling price is $1500 because we believe that half the costs would have been gone into shipping comissions, maintaining the company etc….might have bought it if it was a little cheaper. The dirt from our mattresses and carpet gathered in the water bowl really shocked us….However, told the salesman that we will consider about it and will promise to call him soon. Gave him a drink as well. Similarly, he said that the offer will not be valid anymore when he leaves. Haha. Told him that we dont buy stuff impulsively and sent him off. Wasnt happy when he walked away with his baggage to take a taxi.
Oh well, bottom line is $3600 is really expensive for a vaccum cleaner. Some might beg to differ of course.
    Just 2 cents worth.

Well, everyone has their own preference. It is kinda odd that you said the guy took a cab though because they usually work in pairs. One to demo and one waiting in the van to deliver immediately once you order.

A chinese national came to my home and she started the sales pitch with nonsensical data such as “Singapore has the most number of people with Asthma” and “The air in Singapore is the worst in Asia.” I told her the air in Beijing for example was so bad that people wear a mask but she refuted my statement and tried to outwin with me over these facts. Her condescending manner puts me off right from the beginning. After 2 hours, she was still at my home trying to demostrate and persuaded us to purchase the vacumm cleaner. Though the vacuum cleaner was able to clean well, the product was way overpriced. The saleswoman was so overbearing that I had to tell her outright that we were not keen. Lesson learnt 1: Do not be lured by the free gift given at the booth in the shopping centre. I was approached and given a stainless steel pot on the spot and the promised of a non-obligatory demo cleaning of 2 items. A mattress and a sofa. The lady who came spent most of her time talking that at the end of 2 hours, she cleaned up a portion of only one mattress. Lesson learnt 2: If you have someone at home who is easlily influenced by sales talk, please make sure that a more rational and firm person is present and be prepared to tell the salesperson who doesn’t plan to leave the house till he/she make a sale to end the persistent sales pitch.

I just completed a demo from a very nice young sales lady from China. She was really nice and not pushy. Was really tempted but put off by the high price. In the end, I told her I need to discuss with my husband. S$3.7k for a vacuum cleaner is really expensive I told her. I doubt anyone will use all the functions and on top of that, the power suction part was too heavy for old bones. She tried to persuade me to get 12 servicings for 1 year but have to pay upfront for the full 12 months which I was not comfortable with and I rejected her. Furthermore, the servicing is once per month and not every 3 months. Still she was very nice & professional & I gave her a drink before she leaves. She’s just doing her job trying to sell & get some commission otherwise why would she be working on a Sat evening. I was still thinking of buying so I thought I should get some reviews first. Lesson learnt for me. Don’t ever be tempted by free gifts. Hahah..

I bought many vacuum cleaners including Kirby and I still think Delphin is the best among those expensive vacuum cleaners. It is practically maintenance free. I used it for about 5 years no problem until I was swayed by Kirby salesman to trade it away. This is the “stupidest” mistake I have made, I eventually have to discard using it and buy Delphin again. Till now I have been using Delphin for many years and I am still happy with it.

Mine water container was broken in 2 half the top and the bottom seperated in 2 half (Cause of failure is aging of the plastic)and was told not covered under warranty and warranty is vaild for 7 year only.
Service guy can tell me to purchase a new one at $100
Told him i rather throw it away and he told me that they offer $1400 for trade in if i get the new one
If you state 10 year warranty and don’t cover all parts please let the customer know before hand

Well, think if yours worked for 7years for u, then think it costs about $500++ per year. With that price, I can buy a new vacuum cleaner every year. My Electrolux worked fine for 7 years already and still counting… costs only a fraction of the price. For the beds, I bought a handheld vacuum cleaner from Korea, supposed to be good with eliminating dust mites n stuffs as well. Yet to try but seems to be highly touted.

delphin stuff is a nightmare. is kinda too bad that my parent bought it for nothing now. i they tried to clean the same bed. but for about 2 month later. the dust isnt as much as collected. then when they came back to show the demo again. i realised that they actually staged it. the. black cloth that they have that was used to cover the vaccum pipe before going into the water bowl.the clothitself already have lots of dust.. i still cant believe they are quite a conmen. all the made in germany is really shit. i could just use a 99 dollar vaccum and it can do a equal job than delphin vaccum.

anyway. 3.6k fly to them.. now we are poor.

My friends, my sis and I bought the vaccum cleaner, we are very happy with it. I did my research before calling the salesperson in for the demo. The things he said and the demo make sense and matter of fact! We are happily using it weekly as normal vaccum cleaner, monthly to clean mattresses and now that the haze is here. I’m so glad I had the machine to purify the air. I know of people who said ‘you don’t need to spend so much if you bought them separately and still do the job’ but it’s a happy decision that we made =)

Yes I used it for about 7 years (not 5 years as mentioned earlier) maintenance free. There was this incident in the 3rd year where the service woman who sold me the machine called me to do a service for the machine and I gladly accepted it. After the service, the next day we used the machine, a loud bang and the machine stalled. The cyclone in the machine actually broke. I called the service woman and she told me that Delphin parts actually came from China, unlike its claim it all made in Germany. And she asked me to switch to Rainbow and told me that she has also joined Rainbow for this reason. She took away the broken one and gave me another cyclone and fortunately I was able to see that the new piece was different from the broken one. When i asked for the broken one to compare, she said it is thrown away already (they just remove and brought out only) and quickly ran off. I immediately called Delphin office and the boss attended to me. After clarifying everything, she told me that service woman has left to join Rainbow many months back and also guaranteed that all parts were made and assembled in Germany. She replaced the cyclone for me free of charge since she recognized it’s an unethical doing of her ex-employee. She also told me to write email to the Germany main supplier for verification on their authenticity. I did that and all were clear. I am still using Delphin and still happy with it.

  11. A 25 year old salesman came over to my place for a demonstration yesterday evening. My appointment was at 7pm but the salesman came in only at 8pm. In fact, I was rather pissed off for his lateness but due to my curiosity about what the product can do, I decided to let him carry on his demonstration. Throughout the demonstration, I must say that I was rather impressed by the product. I have skin allergy and at times severe headache. After I had learnt about how the dust mites and their droppings could have been the cause of all these, and having to see the greenish and grayish powdery substance in the water container, I was convinced and had the urge to buy one for my own use. However, when I saw the price list, I was shocked…. I was expecting it to cost about $1k and not thrice of that amount!
Seeing that we were in a dilemma, the salesman suddenly took out his order form and tried to place an order for us! I was quite straightforward and told him not to write anything yet as I needed to think about it. I still feel that the price was too steep despite the fact that the product seems to be quite useful. But on the other hand, I need something to clean my mattress, my carpets and curtains… I am quite obsessed with cleanliness and I cannot stand the sight of any speckles of dust in my house. I need something to get rid of them totally… My vacuum cleaner can’t do that as like what the demonstration has shown, whenever I vacuum a certain area, the dust will start to float in the air and land on the same spot again…
Hence, I decided to purchase one and try out for myself.. I did vacuuming this afternoon and the handle is definitely lighter than my old one. Delphin indeed vacuums better than my old vacuum cleaner. Have not tried on the mattress and carpet though as I still have to wait for the technician to come and guide me. I hope it will last long and I will not regret this expensive decision.

Hi Xeraphina and all who commented!
During the 1st week of June, while I was waiting for my brother at Junction 8, a sweet and pretty China lady came to pass me a leaflet which I refused to take despite being told that ‘it’s for a free gift’. She said it three times and I refused to budge. She then walked to her booth and came back with a box of glass tuperware which she told me ‘it’s totally’ FOC and I questioned her to know why it would be free. She took out a brochure and explained that she is selling a service and her company brand, not selling the tuperware. She only needed my particulars so that I can get a $xxx worth of cleaning service on 1 sofa and 1 mattress or 2 mattresses. She told me some people purchase their vacuum cleaner after seeing the demo but I can always choose to buy just the service alone. I had always been interested in the idea of getting a cleaning service so I thought this will be a beginning- starting with a free demo.

Only when I was on my way back did I see the small print that states if we do not allow the demo to take place, we have to return the free gift and refund $xxx worth of service. Something like that. So, no choice, I had to let them come, although my first sister said that it is dangerous to let strangers come to my place and my second sister said she has tried such demo and the salesperson was very persuasive. I was determined not to buy from the start, so I told my kind and softhearted hubby to be on the same page as me.

Just 3.5 hrs ago, a guy named R from Delphine came to vacuum my queen-size and single-size beds. He is a young Taiwanese and he speaks really fast. I was, like all the above who commented, shocked beyond words when I saw that greyish, powdery, disgusting stuff in the water! My hubby was calm though.

I knew about the cost of the vacuum cleaner so in my mind, I was thinking of purchasing the service but the salesperson wasn’t too interested and wasn’t very sure of the payment modes for the service.
Personally, I have called up Delphine’s office to change my appointment and I found that their staff did not convey the message to their relevant staff or do not have any proper system to key in the updates. I received a call one day before the OLD appt date and had to tell them that I had already called to change the date.

Now, seeing all the reviews, I am glad that I didn’t buy the vacuum cleaner. My hubby said he wanted it but he knew I wouldn’t agree. He said $80+ by installment is very affordable but I said everything by installment is of cse affordable! It’s $3300+ if we buy today, not $80! I am, however, very happy with the air purifier function (because I have 2 dogs and a rabbit) and I am down with sore throat and runny nose! I am just thankful that the salesperson is polite and not pushy. He left after about 50 minutes (with a sad look) and just before he left, he asked if I am interested to buy at ‘below $3k!’ He said it would be counted as ‘staff price’, to which he said he couldn’t reveal how much it would be exactly, unless I am sure to purchase it.

I called the salesman, he only say he will call me when back in sg. No date given. All I can say is. Good product. But bad after sales service

i had a guy came over from delphine to do a cleaning service and only got to know that they are selling the product after that. i have seen similar product like rainbow. to be honest i did not buy delphin cause i feel the machine look cheap and while the guy was pushing me to buy , i started to google and they really had bad review and to my shock the product is made in china and not germany. my wife really wanted to get the product but i stop her from doing that. as soon as the saleman left our place i google again and i got to know there is another new product in singapore. its call ritello. after google on this brand i found out that the owner of this company has a very good review in mummysg forum when he was selling other brand with many years experience and good after sales that made him start off his own distribution. i called him up and chat with him and i was interested to see his demo. he did mention over the phone that his company focus more on the cleaning service. anyway i still invite him to sent his salemen to show me a demo. today 2 salesmen from ritello came over and one of them did the cleaning service not a demo. they really do cleaning untill i,m satisfied. this is really good service. while one guy doing service thee other guy explain to me then only i got to know that was the guy i spoke to over the phone who was the owner of ritello in singapore. to all of u had a bad experience cause u saw the bad one’s. this company is good. he did a price presentation for service and i can tell u they never wanna sell the machine which i expected cause they never do demo they really really clean up the item they promised and even more. finally told him i rather have the machine over the cleaning service as i find its worthy for me. he showed me the price and i can tell its cheaper then all the product i knew of including delphine and other similar product. the machine has a display screen and the suction power is shocking amazing. its different from other machine. i chose to buy the product because i can see its good and its cheaper also mainly for the real good cleaning service provided. if anyone interest can call his office cause i did not get his mobile number. i can pass u the salesmen contact number but he is new.

Hi ST sorry for late reply. I think I should not reveal the price as I.m not here to promote the product. Its just that I feel its a better product and the service was good and not pushy. As for the usage wise. Its has a better performance and it can do more then delphin. Price wise its cheaper then all the product. This company is based on service so they would not wanna sell the product unless u really request for it. Call Them for a demo for cleaning service then u would understand what I.m talking about as all the other company who selling their product use the matteress power nozzle to scare us. Only this company made me understand the way to do it and not using the power nozzle as it will disbuse the dustmite out because of the vibration. Logical right? I feel they do it the right because they wanna sell the cleaning service more then product thats y they show the correct method.

  16. Hi,
For all researching on Delphin and stumbles on this wonderful post above, I would also like to share my experience.
We Had a Delhin Demo last night (7th Oct, 2013) after filling up their form at the Baby Fair in Expo the weekend before. The demo person, Jennifer Lu was pleasant in showing the product. It was an impressive product. Vacuuming dust/dust mites (if you can tell dust from dust mites!) on mattresses and all the dirt on in the water. An air purifier she claims with essential oil making the room smell nicer.
But It is a noisy machine, the wires have to be rolled up and hung on the machine. There’s a total of 4 tubes if you get the attachment that’s for mattresses/fabric sofa. It’s clumsy when you need to clear the dirty water. All the dirt sticks to to the sides of the container after pouring out the water. Wash that in a sink and the sink gets dirty. No you won’t see this part cos most of us would be so impressed with the machine and discussing among ourselves when the demo person cleans up in the toilet.
So is it still a machine worth buying? For some yes, others just won’t be as thrilled. And the usual one time offer if you get it on the spot, throwing in further discount and using her commission to give more discount, etc. But we wanted more time to consider and came to an agreement of a $100 deposit to secure the ‘freebies/discounts’.
The next day we decided after checking online for reviews and feedback and reading this blog too, that it’s not worth the amount of money with all the negative reviews – lousy after sales, warranty not as it seems, product breaking down and leaking hoses within months of use. And let me add a comment from my sis who had a machine and did not get a replacement hose for months and her machine did not even last for a year -“NO NO NO! I had issues with quality and service within 3 months! Waited months for replacement!”. Don’t be fooled by the nice customer service centre you see on the website and the pictures they show during the demo. The contact number says “comming soon” and no, that is not a typo on my part.
So we called Jennifer back and told her we did not want it anymore. Naturally, as a salesperson, she tried to convince me again with the usual sales tactics that it’s only $100 a month, and that it’s not so expensive. The more I declined, the more aggressive she got and insisted that I ask my mother-in-law to call her to personally say that she is the one who wants to cancel, since she was the one who made the deposit. I said “no” and she got upset and said that it is company policy that the person who signed the form must call to cancel and even mentioned she would go to the house to see my mother-in-law to return the money and hung up on me. That is the reason why I’m sharing this because that really pissed me off. She made me so furious!
Now I do not know if we will get the $100 deposit back, but I certainly know that if you let a representative from Delphin in your door, you will be making a very expensive mistake.
The good, the bad and the ugly…don’t make the mistake that we did. The free gift that they gave at the Expo to have us sign up for the demo is not worth the time and the emotions that you will go through.

lol. Same feeling, does not feel well for couple of days after that demo. Got this free demo from the baby fair during Oct. It seem that the salesman is smoking his way through. 18000rpm for the motor rotation that make of plastic? Doesn’t make sense to me when i used to be engine specialist.

Report to CASE for pressure selling. You need to pay $10 to register as CASE member. There is 7 days cooling period.

Look at the link below, well it does not apply for cooling period. Think twice before taking any free gift. =P

        http://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/consumer-watchdog-warns-errant-firm

Under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, there is a cooling-off period where customers can cancel a direct-sale contract within five days. Delphin founder Zhang Runzi said the cooling-off period does not apply to her company because it is not involved in direct selling. “Customers agree to have us go to their homes for product demonstrations, these are not unsolicited sales.”

Maybe you are not aware, the salesperson have no fixed salary but on commission basis. Their commissions are exorbitant, they make about about 40% for every vac. sold. Actually, technically this vac. is not special if you know the function of the vac.

By the way, their selling tactic is exactly similar to pyramid selling. They build up their team and the team leader make commission from their team members. Please check it and find up more.

Hi there, I add on to the throng of others who make up the bulk of pressured into buying group. The saleslady who came to my house was a Taiwanese who gave a very thorough demo and when it came to the sales pitch, she did add her own sad story. At the end of it all I was very very pressured at that point despite saying its way expensive at 3.6K thats when she whipped out a sales memo for a “new” display set at 2/3 the price…of course i grew interested since the price seemed lowered but my hubby is so convinced I am duped, now I am contemplating to bring up to CASE…. i wish there werent such people targeting on the average folk who unlike the high-end spenders, really have no need for such lavish machines. The salesperson is very sincere however to be committed 2 years to something which (after reading mixed reviews) make me ponder harder.

I think Delphin is a terrible company. They refused to give me a copy of the agreement that I signed after I paid deposit. At first the agent told me I will get it in a week. After that I didn’t receive. So I went to check it out w her. 2 weeks passed and she pushed the limit, changing her words to “oh it will take a very long time, about a month.” I’m not even sure if the agent and the company are even comunicating with each other. After I lodged a complaint with CASE and sent registered mail to terminate the order, guess what? 2 weeks later I received an sms alert from my bank, notifying me that they went ahead w the GIRO deduction for the balance. It was a good thing that I was able to terminate it on my side. For goodness sake, this is the worst kind of company I’ve ever dealt with.

But you lost your personal detail because they will forward it to bank. If you can recall when you get the free gift, they did mentioned those gift were sponsed by bank so your personal detail will be forwarded to respectative bank. Funny part, that sale person at baby expo fair still give me the option of choosing which bank. lol!

Delphin had very bad track record with CASE. CASE will definitely take legal action against them If everyone do the same to report to CASE. Please do not feel bad to be cheated because of the small greed from the free gift. This is exactly everyone falls into the same trap. Keep up the spirit to eradicate the unscrupulous sale tactic.

Just had a Delphin salesman by the name of Freddy do a demo for me. He was very nice and sounded very genuine, IMO he believes in the product.

Yes, the machine is very impressive, but I don’t think it’s that much better than a regular water-vacuum (plus WHO recommends HEPA over water-based vacuums). The power-brush was interesting and made sense … but their sales pitch about water-based vacuums using moisture in the cleaning process did not make any sense. Also he started to get really desperate offering display sets at $2232 and offering a $60 servicing so we have time to consider the display set or the $3424 unit at a later date …

Fortunately I asked him for sometime to discuss it and took the opportunity to check online reviews. He seemed quite disappointed and his attitude changed after hearing that we were not purchasing the unit. Thank you for your blog entry 🙂

  28. OMG, I just brought it. Got the latest model DPS8 at $3745. 8 yrs Manufacturer warranty and 8 yrs service warranty. So far the vacuum does works for me. I must say it really good and easy to use. The only problem is pricing. If you can get a 2nd hand piece with gd price can consider getting one.

  29. Water alone does not do a good job of trapping all dusts and miniscule dust mites. Furthermore look at the water swirling inside – it makes bubbles and once they burst, dust flies out and out thru the exhaust – which is why Hepa filtration is required if you want to be sure all particles big or microscopic are contained inside. If you want to spend 3k on a vacuum cleaner maybe rainbow is a better choice. Heck, it even makes an expensive 1k Dyson vacuum an even better choice with 5 years warranty service and parts, and their vacuum cleaners are deeply researched with over 100 patents on a vacuum cleaner unit alone.

    • I had done research as well after the experience and reviews. For pricing, functionality and reliability, I’d rather get a good Dyson vacuum cleaner.

Im currently using a rainbow with all the similar functions Well…its all bout if u have spare cash…then go for it… The latest Rainbows accessories have a more expensive look and quality comparing to delphi…both machine are good

Just has a Delphin demo done in early 2016….
The Sales guy came late at night and when took his time to do the demo
He also pestered me and when I told him I wont be able to afford it, he became angry and said So you like people to come to your home and do work for free?
I was so shocked and told him politely, that he can leave if he wants too….
He decided to continue on with the demo.
Throughout the demo, he asked personal questions and even stared at the photos on the wall and looked at my children’s faces.
He was quite nice, but I didnt like the way he took his time and was forceful.
lucky he left and I got a big scolding from my husband who came home later and found out about the incident.
Don’t comprimise your family’s safety. Don’t let them in your homes.

  37. Consumers have the right to cancel a direct sales (door-to-door) contract within five days

Under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) (Cancellation of Contracts) Regulations 2009, consumers can cancel a direct sales (door-to-door) contract within five days (excludes Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays) after the date of the contract.

From Jan 2012 to Aug 2014, the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) has handled approximately 141 cases involving direct selling companies.

These direct selling companies usually solicit for consumers’ consent to visit their home at shopping malls or exhibitions venues in the guise of giving out free gifts. Once consumers have given consent, the salesperson will call at their homes to give a free product demonstration. Products promoted include vacuum cleaners, frying pans, mattress cleaning systems, etc.

After the demonstration, consumers have complained that the salesperson would use hard-sell tactics to pressure them into purchasing the product. The salesperson would spend several hours trying to persuade consumers to buy the item and would refuse to leave the house without making a sale.

Consumers have approached CASE because they felt that they were pressurised into making the purchase and wanted a refund. They also told CASE that they were not informed of the five-days cooling-off period for direct sales. As these consumers were unable to return the item and get back a refund, they filed their complaint with CASE for further pursuit. Most of the cases were eventually resolved with a final settlement agreed upon by both parties.

CASE would like to advise consumers that if they come across road shows organised by direct selling companies, they should keep in mind that any free gift(s) given often come with certain conditions, such as inviting the salesperson to their home for a product demonstration. Be mindful that the salesperson may take advantage of the invitation to your house to stay longer than necessary to sell their product.

If you have invited the salesperson to your house and he or she refuses to leave, you can call the police for assistance in evicting the salesperson. Additionally, under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act (CPFTA), it is an unfair practice to take advantage of a consumer by exerting undue pressure or influence on the consumer to enter into a transaction. Consumers can seek redress under the Act. If they are unable to resolve the dispute on their own, they can come to CASE for further assistance.

There are also laws that protect consumers from unsolicited direct sales contracts. Under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) (Cancellation of Contracts) Regulations 2009, consumers can cancel a direct sales (door-to-door) contract within five days (excludes Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays) after the date of the contract
